"Virgin Fuels was set up in recognition of the Virgin Group’s commitment to investment in the renewable energy sector. In September 2006, Richard Branson made a $3bn commitment to combat global warming announced at the Clinton Global Initiative. As a first step, Virgin Fuels will invest up to $400mn over the next three years in renewable energy projects around the world.

Virgin Fuels works alongside the Virgin Group portfolio companies on a range of activities, and benefits from the Group’s strong relationships with government, institutions and businesses around the world.

The Virgin Fuels investment team is based in London with offices in the US as well as a global presence through the Virgin Group network."

Sir Richard Branson's pledge: "Our generation has inherited a beautiful world from our parents and they from their parents. It is in our hands whether our children and their children inherit much the same world. We must hand it over to our children in as near pristine condition as we were leant it from our parents.

To achieve that we must rapidly wean ourselves off our dependence on coal and fossil fuels. Our generation has the knowledge and the financial resources and, as importantly, the willpower to do so.
